Hip'n'Bass is back in action with a fun and unique show on Wednesday June 25 at a new location. We're doin it up house-party style at Bollyhood Cafe in the mission.
Performances by Clandestine, Dhol Rhythms, Jennifer Faust, Mitara and a new hip-hop duet by Christine and Monica, DJ sets by Jimmy Love, Giamma and Amar, and Freyja on visuals.

Its gonna be a fun night with surprises, starting at 9 with performances kicking off at 10. We'll have a few seats for the performances so get there early to grab a chair. Dancefloor opens back up after performaces.

Cover is only $5 for this fab lineup. If you haven't been to bollyhood, nows a good time to come check it out.

sHip'n'Bass - Break's over - June 25

Ok, so with crazy busy schedules focusing on festivals, Electric Vardo shows, Important fundraisers, etc, we've had to put Hip'n'Bass on hold for a few months. We'll be picking it back up with some shows coming up, not monthly yet but kinda randomly.
Next show will be June 25 at Bollyhood Cafe. This one will be a special treat featuring a Belly-Bhangra-Hip Hop-Burlesquey mashup of performances ajd DJs spinnin global gypsy beats.

Details will unfold soon. Expect to see Dhol Rhythms, Clandestine, Mitara, Amar & more.

Who: open to anyone of any level in dance.

Instructors: Kimberly- former Spurs Silver dancer, 3 years, danced along Will Smith, Christina Aguilara and more!
Samara- has performed in various shows in Austin, (Grand Rapids, Holland & Grand Haven Michigan, as well as
festivals and more!

We almost didn't get permission to play drums this year due to a large number of sound complaints 2 years ago!!

In order to try avoiding those problems again, PLEASE
1) Leave sticks and steel drums at home.
2) Don't drum after 8pm any where
3) Don't drum in the neighborhood outside the event.

Sept. 11 benefit VENUE CHANGE

Ok, so we ran into a Last minute Snafu with the club, so our September 11th benefit is being moved. Standby, we are in the process of re-booking a venue. I will post updated on Wednesday and Thursday. Note that the event will not be at OASIS (unless a miracle happens there and it is somehow worked out). It will likely be at El Rio or Cell Space, pending confirmations.

Thank you for a wonderful night

Thank you all who came to Hip'n'Bass last night at Oasis.
Thank you also to all of the performers, including our added surprize guests.

I had a wonderful time with all of you, and look forward to more nights there.

It was our second event, and it is looking like we will be doing it monthly there.

Last night started with me spinning a short set, followed by a tabla solo with Ferhan Qureshi accompanied by Sonia Mann on Sitar.
After that, we had a phenomenol bellydance performance by Clandestine, followed by some crunchy dubby bhangra beats by Kush Arora.

Then, a last minute impromptu set by some wonderful students of Ultra Gypsy in an encore performance of their debut Isis Project, which they performed earlier at Ashkenaz that night.
Jill, thank you for spreading the word and bringing the Ultra Gypsy vibe to Hip'n'Bass. You rock. All of you rock. Shana, Ann, Elizabeth, Cat, Carleigh, Jill, Deedee, etc.

After that, Kush continued his dubbified beats until the moment of ecstacy with ...

Belly-Groovin Goddess Frederique and her steaming dance performance, rockin the stage to her creatively mixed breakbeats and basslines. This girl can dance, and this girl can mix a seriously unique music set to complement her style. The one and only.

And then I got to humbly follow that up and close out the night with a DJ set accompanied by Ferhan Qureshi on tabla and another great percussionist who I met last time at Oasis.

In the front room we had a night of dub with Smartbeat Soundsystem's JME & resident DJs.

What a fun night.
