Here's what you can expect:
Tribal Fusion Belly Dance performances
DJs spinning a World of beats stretching boundaries with their bass-driven beats and eclectic styles. Expect something different every time and expect a down home friendly vibe.
We'll have occasional live music accompanying the DJs.
HIP'n'BASS started in 2005 with our first show on July 10, 2005 for a 3-month run at Oasis in Oakland with DJ Amar, Frederique, Kush Arora & Ferhan Qureshi with guest performances by Clandestine, Isis, Sonia Mann and others.
Hip'n'Bass re-emerged in July 2007 for a six-month run at Underground SF with some amazingly spectacular performances in a down-home neighborhood bar - hosted by Amar & Freyja - featuring performances by Frederique, Jennifer Faust, Mitara, Ariellah, Beats Antique, Maneesh the Twister, Sharon Phillips, Cera, Susan Frankovich, Unmata, Freyja, Sooozhyq, Maneesh the Twister, Giamma, Dhol Rhythms, Jimmy Love, Kamille of Rockabelly, Gina Grandi, Erica Cipriani, Sharmaji of New York's Basement Bhangra, Latrama of Chandra Sound System in Madrid, Gibson Pearl, Clandestine and Amar.
Hip'n'Bass is a little side project of Electric Vardo bringing together both the hottest names in belly dance, DJs and musicians and opening the stage to the most unique undiscovered talent in the same room. There are no boundaries, just a fun low key night of dance and music.
Hip'n'Bass is currently on break and will re-emerge sometime in the near future with random shows here and there.
For those intrigued by the title (if you are here, you must be intrigued), for those interested in and inspired by the cross-contamination of musical genres - mixing hip shaking bellydance rhythms with hip hop, middle eastern percussion with electronic breakbeats, drum & bass with strings and tablas - join this tribe and keep up to date on shows.
Tradition aside yet embraced, we are in deep exploration of our souls and the directions we can move our bodies. Bass - cars that go boom, rumbling subs massaging your thighs. Dancehallers, all beat freaks, tribal trip hoppers, hoopers, bollywood bellydancers, drum & bass fiends, bhangra addicts, sambalicious breakbeaters, big taiko drummers, share your thoughts, ideas, experiences. Most importantly ... Move, shake, bounce.
